1 Hit Knockouts Part 1 Of 2

Warning: Do Not Practice on Living People

Do not practice these techniques on other people. These techniques can cause serious injury and have a high potential to be lethal. Do not use these techniques unless it is to defend yourself in a serious life or death situation. Also, do not practice these techniques at full speed or power or with real intention on another human being or on any other living thing.

For example, a serious knock out hit to the jaw can shatter the jaw and if the intent of the force or the physical force is driven upward with enough power then the strike can break the small bones of the cheek or and the connecting eye ridge causing such massive trauma that the injured person will die from the shock let alone the trauma.

One of the dangers of learning a true method of 1 Hit Knockouts is that quite often, at first, the practitioner can?t tell how much power they are generating and assume that since they don?t feel much power that they don?t have the hit yet or that they are not generating a knock out hit. However, once true knock out power is learned it is generally easier to do a knock out quality hit than it is not to do one. So, students have to be seriously warned to be careful not to really hit their training partner(s) when practicing. There is, of course, the liability issue but even more than that is the real possibility that someone can get seriously injured because the practitioner doesn?t realize their own power. So, we never hit another person with even a medium hit and certainly not with a fast speed or penetrating strike. We limit our hits to air strikes or striking on boards, bricks, bags and pads and will only demonstrate very limited hits to a person on rare occasions.

When one of my senior students first learned ?No Distance? hitting he did not understand how serious these hits really are and consequently he broke 2 different training partners ribs by mistake before he realized he could not even moderately practice on people. Fortunately, he was not hitting any major pressure points or he may have done much more than just crack a rib or two. He honestly didn?t think he was hitting with any power. I have always warned my students about the dangers of these hits but ever since his experience I have always EXTRA stressed the importance of not practicing these hits on people and that is why I am sharing his experience with you.

What is a 1 Hit Knockout:

There are different kinds of knockout hits including but not limited to pressure point hits that require a series or combination of hits to achieve a knockout. This kind of knockout hitting is very popular today in Okinawan and Kenpo Karate. The series combination pressure point method is also the way that I was originally taught to apply the moves in my Kung Fu forms. Kilap Silat is an art that usually hits multiple pressure points all at once with the same strike causing a system overload that causes a knockout. Fa Jing or explosive energy hits emanate from the entire body and tend to be whip like. Most real Tai Chi and Internal Arts instructors know or have a version of Fa Jing in their art. Whole body power striking is typical of the hitting method in Poekilan and Tji-Mande Silat. Some advanced hits include Poison Hands, Shock Power Hitting and Vibrating Palm Hitting. These skills can be found in most Internal Arts but are much less commonly known. Other advanced strikes include 1 Touch Knockouts and short distance knockouts including heavy hand techniques.

A 1 Hit Knockout can be as simple as a finger jab to an eye, a punch to the throat or a light slap to the testicles. A 1 Hit Knockout can be as sophisticated as a light tap underneath the jaw at the correct angle and direction such that the person just drops, a whole body power hit, to snap the arm, that is done in such a way so that the person who receives it goes into shock from the trauma and passes out, or a specialized frontal or side strike that causes the heart to fibrillate and then the blood circulation stops temporarily or permanently causing death. In Kun Tao and Pentjak Silat there is a study of striking the joints to disable an attackers ability to physically move in case the attacker is crazed (or in today?s world on drugs or heavily under the influence of alcohol) so that the attacker is unable to continue. I place this body of information as a priority along with my study, practice and teaching of knockout hitting because I believe that the average attacker on the street is not in their right mind to begin with.

Description of 1 Hit Knockouts:

A properly executed 1 Hit Knockout looks like the person throwing the hit barely did anything. One of the simpler and more advanced 1 Hit methods has been described by one author (Gilbey) as a just a dinky little poke. From watching the film footage I believe that this is the kind of hit that Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) used to hit Sonny Liston. Also, when a 1 Hit Knockout is done correctly the opponent typically falls like a sack of potatoes.

Once a good 1 Hit Technique has been trained in it is common to feel like you aren?t doing anything to make such an enormous impact when delivering the strike. To the person who is executing the strike the hit feels like nothing. To the person receiving the hit it is game over! Several people that I have trained have had to use this technique in a real situation. The vast majority of the time, the result of the strike was that the attacker was instantly knocked out. In one case the student hit the attacker on the arm and the hit was so powerful that it instantly snapped the attackers arm.

Properly trained 1 Touch Knockouts (Tai Chi, Shaolin & Petjut Silat) have an even much less feeling of impact to them than 1 Hit Knockouts and are usually done very quickly. In fact, typically they are done fast enough that the point of impact can not be seen by the average person. When someone really has the 1 Touch technique perfected they usually will not feel any impact at all from delivering the hit. However, when done to a 1 inch thick pine board the effect to the board is shattering.

One inch hitting is similar to that of a highly refined 1 inch punch and tends to have a shattering effect on boards although different kinds of energy can be applied for different effects. A good shock hit can be practiced by holding two boards in your hand and breaking only the second board. On a person the effect can be manifested in different ways including but not limited to the recipient moves or flies 8-12 feet or more or the recipient feels a deeply penetrating hit but is hardly moved at all. A large heavy bag (over 120 lbs.) with someone who knows what they are doing and what they are feeling for holding the other side is a good and safe way to work on manifesting the different kinds of power. Another good way to train one inch hitting power is to break patio blocks with it. I only recommend trying this under the guidance and or supervision of an instructor and I highly recommend easier breaks before advancing to the kinds of breaking I have been describing in this article.

No distance hitting at an intermediate level tends to look like the person doing it shrugged or let go of something very quickly or sneezed. At an advanced level the person doing the hit looks like they barely moved. The recipient feels a jolt go through their body. At a really advanced level the energy of the hit can be directed through the recipients body and sent out through anywhere on the recipients body or it can be made to stop so that serious trauma is caused. Our students mostly practice no distance hitting on boards or on a heavy bag. The first level of this hit can be done on a heavy bag such that when the bag is struck it does not move and the person who is holding the bag gets knocked away from the bag.

In the past I have had friends and students in the construction business and was granted access to a few houses, to practice on, prior to them being torn down. In my practice of no distance hits I have broken doors that were slightly ajar including taking one off of the hinges and by directing my energy I was able to hit a wall and caused a window to break that was over 8 feet away. I am not trying to brag here. One of my primary instructors is Willem de Thouars (Uncle Bill) and his striking ability is much greater than mine. Several other teachers I have studied with are also very impressive pressure point and energy power hitters. In this article I am simply stating what I have personally experienced with this kind of hitting.

Bowling 101: Etiquette On The Lanes

We?re all here to have FUN!

At first glance, bowling looks as simple as throwing a heavy plastic ball down a shiny wooden hallway in order to knock down ten pins at the end. As you?ll soon find out, it?s so much more! It?s a sport that requires physical strength and coordination and mental strategies that are second to none.

Whether you?re just going bowling with friends or are starting in a league, you?re here to have fun! There are 8 basic rules of etiquette to follow to make the game more enjoyable for everyone:

1. Mind your manners. It?s important to follow the rules of any bowling alley you visit, to be polite to staff and courteous to fellow bowlers. Some of the machinery is dangerous, and you can be hurt badly by engaging in horseplay.

2. Wear appropriate attire. Loose, comfortable clothing, socks and bowling shoes are a must. Most people don?t relish the idea of putting their tootsies where thousands have gone before, but it is a necessary evil. Not only do bowling shoes protect the finish on the lanes, they protect you from slipping and consequential injuries. If you bowl regularly, you can purchase a pair of your own at the pro shop in your bowling alley or at many shoe stores.

3. Remain behind the foul line. As tempting as it might be to get closer to the pins (They seem so far away at first!), any ball bowled from over the line is considered ?dead.? In other words, it doesn?t count!

4. Give way to the bowler on your right. Instead of rushing to bowl as soon as it?s your turn, always give way to a bowler in the lane to your right who is ready to go. If you allow other bowlers to concentrate on their games, they will afford you the same courtesy.

5. Roll, don?t pitch the ball. Releasing your ball on an upward swing, or worse yet, pitching it overhand, will damage the lane and, more often than not, end up in the gutter. Release the ball on the forward swing when your arm is lowest to the ground.

6. Cover any extra holes in your ball. If you?re bowling with a ball that has additional holes in it, the rules state you must cover them with the palm of your hand before releasing the ball. If you don?t the ball doesn?t count and is considered ?dead.?

7. Keeping it out of the gutter. We all get them in the beginning. The dreaded gutter ball can be disheartening at first. A gutter ball cannot contribute to a score. With practice, you?ll learn how to keep the ball in the lane. In some leagues, they?ve modified the rules. If you bowl a gutter ball and it hops out of the gutter and knocks pins down, the pins do count. Be sure to ask what to do if this happens to you.

8. If you have a question, ask. The staff at your bowling alley will be happy to answer questions about anything related to bowling. From the rules of the game to how to complete a scorecard, they are there to help you.

By following these 8 basic rules of etiquette at the bowling alley, everyone will have more fun while learning to bowl!

Benefits Of Golf

There is absolutely no doubt that golf is sweeping the world off its feet. There are many who believe that no major social gathering is complete without a golf outing; that no major convention is complete without a golf tournament; and some major weddings must schedule prenuptial tee-off times for the bride, the groom, and their guests. Interestingly, certain NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball stars spend almost as much time on the golf course as they do on the playing field. Some even make contract decisions based on the golf facilities of competing cities!

Hollywood feels similarly about golf. Samuel L. Jackson is a huge fan, even though he only started playing at the age of forty five. There are also movie stars who state in their contracts that location sites must provide easy access to major golf courses. And then there are stars such as Johnny Mathis, who spend more time on the golf course than on their jobs.

Golf is increasingly becoming less male and less white, too, in part because of networking possibilities and in part because it is a fun way to stay in shape. Experts believe that golfers that walk eighteen holes once or twice a week can improve their health dramatically. Golf is also the game of choice for a number of physicians and health care professionals. ?Usually when I walk and play a round, I lose about four pounds,? says teaching pro Marvin Childress.

Minorities are turning to golf not only because the game is fun and challenging, but also because the game provides a great deal of access and networking opportunities that are not always readily available in the boardroom. The senior vice president of Nova Chemicals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Pina learned this the hard way when he was invited to play the game with his boss but had to turn him down since he did not know how to play. So, Pina made sure that never happened again. After a crash course, he hit the links and discovered the real world. He says, ?I saw how business was conducted on golf courses. I saw how relationships and trusts were built.? He was surprised to see the level of business that is carried out on the course. ?The account executives delivered all the news they needed to deliver instead of having a business meeting, and it was done in an environment that was more cordial and far more supportive, because you’re playing a game as well as conducting business.?

Black women are among the most passionate supporters of the game today. Another golf plus, according to the publisher of the African-American Golfers Digest, is that the game gives you a personal edge. Given that golf is such an expensive sport to play, it can act as a major personal selling point. There is, moreover, a fraternity or sorority of golfers, and once a golfer meets a golfer ? a client, CEO or a potential date ? they enjoy an instant rapport. Although corporate executives and celebrities spend relatively large amounts of money on club fees and green fees, most golfers spend relatively modest amounts playing municipal courses.

Celebrity golfers like Michael Jordan are fueling the golf craze. Not only do people pay attention to what celebrities are doing, but they also try to incorporate the competitive spirit of the likes of Jordan. Leonard S. Coleman Jr., former president of baseball’s National League, says he enjoys golf because ?it’s extremely competitive, and I relish playing the game with my friends and competitors.? And the vice president of multicultural marketing at Schieffelin & Somerset Co. says he enjoys the camaraderie of the game and the opportunity to relax in beautiful natural settings with like-minded colleagues.

DEAD HEAT

When there is a photo finish and the judge still cannot determine the winner ? this is said to be a ?dead heat?. Frequently before the days of photo finish, there would be mayhem when a dead heat was declared by a judge but everyone else could see there was an outright winner.

Often it would be the angle of the finishing line that gave an impression of an outright winner, meaning the mayhem was not justified. However oftentimes it would be the judge who had got it wrong and the chaos was entirely justified.

Punters, trainers, owners would all be outraged by the judge?s poor decision and eyesight (or lack of it); obviously where there is a dead heat the prize money about a horse is substantially reduced.

The first record of a decision being determined by a ?dead heat? was at Doncaster in October, 1947, between the horses Phantom Bridge and Resistance. More dead heats occur in Sprint Handicaps than in any other race, this is as one would expect, i.e. short unpredictable races with weights set to reduce advantage. These races often have ?blanket finishes?

DISTANCE

? This is generally recognized as being a point 240yds from the winning post. Not officially marked on the racecourse, but always referred to in form summaries and the formbook i.e. went well clear after leading at the distance. Courses are all marked with furlong markers indicating how far one is from the finishing post, so it can be seen that the distance is 20yds before the final furlong marker is reached.

? Sometimes horses may be judged to have won by a distance (more often at jumps meetings rather than flat). Although this is supposed to be 240 yards it usually means that the distance is so large that the judge cannot be bothered to estimate it.

? The actual distance of a race. The shortest distance for a race is 5 furlongs. The longest flat races are around 2 miles in practice. The longest event of the racing calendar is the Queen Alexander stakes at Royal Ascot over 2.75 miles. National Hunt races are much longer with no chase or hurdle being less than 2 miles, with the longest jumps race being the Grand National at 4 miles 856 yards.

? Winning distance. This can be defined as a ?short head?, the finest of margins on a photo finish, then a ?full? head, then a neck , then half a length etc etc.

DOLL

This is a hurdle whose primary purpose is to signal direction during a national hunt race, for example when a section of the course is waterlogged, that part of the course would be said to be ?dolled off?.

DRAW

Before a flat race there is a ?draw? to decide which place in the stalls each horse will occupy. The draw is made the day before the race at the overnight declarations office by lots. National hunt races don?t draw for places.

The extreme left position is number one, with the number being indicated over the stall front, horse two takes stall two etc. Punters should consider stall position as part of their form study, as certain stalls are known to have advantage or disadvantage at certain courses, at certain times of year, especially in big fields.

Punters had to lobby hard to get access to the draw information which is now widely available in newspapers and the numbers board and on Betfair. The information has proved very valuable to trainers and jockeys in determining race strategy.

Making the draw overnight allows various aspects of the race to be considered, and has made considerable difference in flat racing, particularly to off course punters.

DRIFTER

When a horses price moves out considerably in the market i.e. starts at 3/1 and moves out to 8/1 it is called a ?drifter?. The bookies may have expected it to be backed; possibly they heard rumours from trainers or stablehands. However the money never came and the short price gradually ?drifts? out to longer odds.

Usually this is bad sign for the punter, although recent evidence has suggested that this may not always be the case, with some smaller stables often coming good on their original ?rumour?.

On the other side of the coin are ?springers? or the more recent term ?steamers?. These may for example start out at 7?s or 8?s, and when the money starts to roll may return 6/4 favourite.

There is a huge market that has developed on Betfair and the other exchanges, trading on steamers. The theory being that these horses can be backed early on at a long price and laid to lose later on as the price steams, locking in a guaranteed profit. Trading is explored meticulously on my website.

It is a hopeful sign for the punter as prices move in and the momentum can produce some dramatic shifts which make FSTE movements look like gentle gradients.

The best steamers are in two year old races, especially ones who haven?t been raced before.

The worst steamers are in poor or small fields, where there is a weak betting market and small amounts of money can be presented by heavyweight traders attempting to cause dramatic price fluctuations to their own advantage.

Even with the advent of exchange trading, it will normally be the case that in a strong market, when the price about a horse steams in, that the horse has a good chance of winning, but this is by no means guaranteed.

However, you can be sure that it is generally fancied by its owners and trainers and other experts, and the money is actually coming in.

DWELT

A horse is said to have ?dwelt at the start? when it falters in the stalls. It becomes less important to the final outcome of a race if the race is a long one.

A Dictionary Of Horse Racing Terms - C - Part 1

CAME AGAIN
Used in the formbook, this phrase is used to indicate when a horse renews its effort after dropping back in a race.

CAMERA PATROL
Introduced officially 30th June, 1960 at Newmarket.

Originally, cameras just photographed the latter stages of a race from varying different angles, often head on. Later the coverage was extended to provide a complete visual record of a race using a mobile camera.

The objective is to obtain evidence for use when an objection is filed, or when there?s a Steward?s inquiry. There is now extensive usage of closed circuit television on race courses, and the video replay is used to back up the evidence from the camera patrol.

The combination of the two has been instrumental in recent years in reducing underhand practices at race meets, that had been occurring for many years.

CARD
Short for race card, the official runners and riders program which is on sale at race courses.

The ?Card? also appears in newspaper headings, for example ?The Chepstow Card? or the ?Card for Uttoxeter?.

Phrases may read for example ?The best bet on the card? or ?going through the card?, which refers to selection or association with all the winners on the card.

CARPET
For anyone who doesn?t understand John McCririck?s presentation of betting on C4, specifically the slow motion tic tac, and odd betting terms he uses, the phrase ?carpet?, a favourite of his, is derived from convict slang for a three month prison term.

In other words ?carpet? is three to one in the betting. John O Neill (RIP) had a huge repertoire of betting terminology and his return of the starting prices in the press room at the Northern race courses is badly missed.

CAST IN HIS/HER BOX
Sometimes when a horse lays down in their traveling horse box or stable loose box, they can have problems getting up again off the straw. They are said to be ?cast in the box?. This is obviously not very beneficial on race day.

CHALK JOCKEY
Until a rider is successful i.e. has ridden a few winners, they don?t justify having their name painted onto the jockeys and riders boards, which fit into the numbers board at the racecourse.

Therefore their names are chalked or whitewashed onto a blank board and they are referred to as a ?Chalk Jockey?

CHAMPIONSHIPS
The number of winners ridden, or the biggest amount of prize money won in a season determines Trainer and Jockeys championships.

There is no real recognition of championships, in fact these titles are purely a remnant of tradition, although it is still possible to wager on the outcome of these championships.

CHASE
Otherwise known as steeplechase. The derivation is from an event in Ireland, 1752, when Mr. O Callahan accepted the challenge from Mr. Edmund Blake to race four and a half miles from Buttevant Church to St. Ledger across country, with the steeple of the latter representing the winning post.

This was the origin of National Hunt Racing, which is now the basis for modern steeplechasing, except obviously without the steeples.

Todays chases are races over fences between two and four miles, usually around three. The fences are made from birch, and are open ditches, water jumps or plain fences.

The water jumps are often considered rather dangerous nowadays, but provide great spectacle. However their days may be numbered due to frequent deaths.

Horses are not supposed to be raced over fences until July of the year in which they are four years old, by law. Usually such horses do not appear in public till they are five or six, usually after having had a career in hurdles.

CLAIMING RACE
These races allow the horses to be ?claimed? post race, for an advertised sum of money. Often known as ?a claimer?.

If a horse?s owner requires it to race with less than the maximum weight then the claiming price is reduced accordingly. The racing rules determine that the median price at which a horse can be claimed out of a claimer is the amount published next to the horses name on the race card.

The weight carried by a horse during a race is dependent on the minimum amount for which in may be claimed, so therefore it is the trainer who in effect handicaps his own horse.

Post race, all claims have to be made in writing. All claims have to be equal or higher to the race ?claiming? amount.

Friendly claims may be proposed by a runner?s connections in a race. This is usually an effort to keep a charge by making a bid which is in effect higher than the competing claims. Claims must all be sealed and placed into the claims box on the clerk of the scales table, no later than ten minutes after the ok signal has been given by the Stewards.

Claims cannot be altered or withdrawn with the horse going to the individual who submits the highest claim above the minimum price. In the event of a tie, lots are drawn.

The owner takes 15% of any surplus over the published minimum claiming price plus 90% of that minimum. The racecourse receives the remaining 85% of the surplus and 10% to a published minimum.

Connections who submit a ?friendly? claim have to pay 85% of the surplus and 10% of the minimum to keep the horse if their bid is successful.

Snowboarding: The First Training

Snowboarding is very interesting and pleasant kind of sport. You get a lot of positive moments during riding. One of the numerous profits of snowboarding is that if you have good instructor, you will be able to learn principles of riding for rather short time. You will not just ride, you will get satisfaction of it! You should go through difficult period of trainings at the beginning, when constant falls and injuries could leave unpleasant memories into your mind. The biggest mistake of beginners is impatience and desire to ride at once as a professional rider. It?s impossible and you should realize it. If you will be good student and will listen to all recommendations of your instructor properly, after some days you will be able to ride with intermediate level.
At your first training, you should forget about full slope, because you will need only little part of it. It?s better to choose place in distance from others snowboarders and noisy companies of spectators. Snow on your area should be rather tough. The slope should have the rake about twenty ? twenty-five degrees. On this part of the slope you should learn how to control your body on the board and to feel balance. Try to stand on your board and jump a little with it. Don?t forget to check bindings, because if you start your riding without check you could get serious injuries as a result of your carelessness.
It?s very important to learn how to turn to other side on your board. It?s possible to learn basic principles of riding rather fast, just all you need to listen to your instructor carefully and practice all exercises he suggests. Professional instructor knows what to do and knows how to do one or another task. He will control your results and at the second training will pay more attention to your problems and mistakes during riding.
Remember that snowboarding is extreme kind of sport, probably it?s even more safe than skiing, but you should be attentive during your riding and also use protective gear. They say that snowboarding is concerning extreme kind of sport, because it is rather young. With every new season more people are interested into snowboarding and probably soon this kind of sport will disappear from the list of extreme sports. Who knows? But what we know for sure is that snowboarding becomes very popular among people of different age. Mostly it attracts people who have high level of life, because equipment for snowboarding is not cheap and not everyone could allow himself to buy it. Of course really devoted to snowboarding people will find way to solve this problem, they can rent necessary equipment and enjoy their favourite kind of sport.
Usually in snowboarding are interested people who lead active style of life and like to stay outdoors, in spite of cold weather.

Your snowboarding hang out will depend a lot upon the snowboarding gear that you have. That is why pay special attention to the choice of snowboarding gear. And this website will help you to find and choose the best snowboarding gear.

Helpful Info About Snowboarding Gear

Special wearing for snowboarding was appeared about fifteen years ago, at that time it was different from skiing gear only by colours. Later difference was not only in colours but in other peculiarities, which concerns only snowboarding.
Snowboarders for long time tried to look different from skiers and to prove that snowboarding has nothing same with skiing.
Snowboarding gear consists of three layers- it is external layer, middle and underwear layers. All these layers accomplish its? own functions. Ok, let?s speak about these functions a little. Underwear layer should be comfortable and cozy; it shouldn?t absorb moisture, and even have to take it out to the middle layer. The middle layer should keep warmness properly and take our moisture to the next layer. And the external layer should protect you of wind, snow, rain and all other things like this. Modern gear allows taking out moisture outside though your jacket!
